Soft hues with a sense of fluidity and movement that mirror the gentle ripples of water that flow through Amsterdam. The collection’s items are more than just traces of the city’s atmosphere; they also bear the imprint of Gerda’s exploration of her new surroundings. She always discovers first the buildings, materials, and textures when she travels, and this time was no exception. Meet Ripple Rise.

Gerda moved from Budapest to Amsterdam to continue her textile and fashion design journey. So, whenever possible, she rides her bike to get to know her surroundings and explore the various parks and cafés. She often takes unfamiliar routes, observing the architecture and structures along the way. In those moments, she also takes photographs to capture interesting details that will later guide her creative work.
The story of Ripple Rise unfolded similarly. Gerda’s new collection began to take shape as she grew more familiar with her neighborhood. “I decided to embark on this path and build on my current life experiences. Then I came up with the idea of bringing back the colors of the city with my new pieces.” Gerda’s attraction to water, which permeates Amsterdam’s urban fabric, went hand in hand with creating the concept: “To roam in the city is like being on a riverbank, which gives me a sense of freedom,” she notes. “I also enjoy Budapest in nice weather, especially when you can hang out on the quay. Interestingly, every street in Amsterdam seems like a little quay to me. It’s also encouraging to see the locals here rush to the canal every weekend, whenever they can to get their boats,” she adds. These two elements, the hues of the city and the presence of water, are connected by the collection’s title, Ripple Rise.

“The culture here also influences my creative approach,” she states. Therefore, in contrast with her earlier garments, pastel, soft, elegant, yet relaxed tones have taken the place of vibrant colors.
For each of the outerwear and accessories, Gerda opted for blue as the main color, which she balanced with other complementary shades, including burgundy, beige and khaki or grey. All stand out with Gerda’s digital and screen-printed patterns, specific to the Magnesium touch.
The city’s natural and built elements both contribute to the prints’ aesthetics. Such as the digitally printed scarf, which can be worn as a headband or top, has motifs reminiscent of Dutch tiles. The Delft Dream Tee, a true statement piece with scenes inspired by Gerda’s daily life on the backside, also echoes the tile-like composition. Thus, the personified characters of the logo letters walk in the park, spray paint, or head to the bakery, all with Amsterdam city scenes in the background. “I always draw the logo letters in a scene that I like or is happening to me,” she explains.

Gerda uses screen-printing techniques to apply the collection’s figurative and storytelling patterns to the garments, like the wildflower and duck pattern on the striped background of the T-shirts or the characters on the shopper bags. The allover prints, including the stripe-effect logo pattern on the inside of the vest or the season’s new turtleneck, which resembles water rippling, are digitally produced.
Magnesium’s repertoire is defined by loose silhouettes and unisex clothing, but theLiquid Turtleneck is the first garment with a more slim and feminine fit.
While the vest remains the iconic Magnesium piece, the Ripple Rise collection also features a cozy, full-print jacket. The Ripstop Puffer Hood is another new addition, designed for stylish and comfortable wear in bad weather and even while cycling.
