fROM FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHS TO 90S STREETWEAR CULTURE
Magnesium is an Amsterdam-based slow fashion brand inspired by 90s sportswear and underground culture. Each piece is carefully crafted to provide durability and style for the modern urban dweller. The classic, clean designs are balance with unexpected details while focusing on creating functional and versatile pieces.
Gerda Marada, the founder and designer of the brand, believes in a conscious lifestyle. Her philosophy is echoed in her seasonless clothing, making it a sustainable choice for conscious wearers. Magnesium’s oversize, unisex outerwear is a great companion for those who enjoy recharging actively while maintaining a unique aesthetic.

How it's made
Each Magnesium garment is handcrafted by Gerda. Her small design studio in Amsterdam provides the setting, with the sewing table frequently transforming into a silkscreen print studio, as every step of production holds the imprint of her craftsmanship.
The simple and humorous digital or screen-printed patterns add even more charm to Magnesium clothing. The intuitive graphics designed by Gerda discreetly adorn a hidden detail, the inner layer, or the backside of a garment. She often mixes elements from her life experiences, surroundings, and travels into her pattern design.
Gerda believes in ethical production and is committed to using sustainable fabrics from transparent sources. Water-base inks are used to apply the playful screen print designs to each material. The limited-edition garments arrive in a biodegradable carrier bag with a protective pouch made by Gerda. When necessary, the latter also doubles as a laundry bag.

THE FOUNDER
Gerda originally planned to continue her professional journey by joining a streetwear brand, but after her university studies, she soon changed her mind and created her first wearable clothing line under the label Magnesium.
Since her childhood, sports and leisure activities have been an essential part of Gerda’s everyday life, so she wanted her clothing design to reflect the same playful yet conscious lifestyle. The visual appearance of her garments is no coincidence. His father ran a clothing shop and a tailoring studio where, among other things, surfing trousers were made. Although Gerda has always been inspired by street art, the sportswear and shoes captured in her family photos drew her deeper into 90s streetwear culture. Her affection for the brand’s signature piece, the vest, roots in early family portraits, in which Gerda frequently wears her beloved pink puffy vest. Magnesium appreciates the value of making this item functional while maintaining an individual aesthetic.
The brand’s name originates from the founder’s monogram and creed: a spirit of playfulness and responsibility in life is as essential as the mineral itself for our bodies.
